To a casual observer, Tuesday's election results might seem to be another typical election in Arkansas. Republicans won all the major contests. It's been that way in every election since 2012. However,
Gov. Sarah Sanders was essentially unopposed for re-election. Still, she lost 4.6 of every 10 voters. They opted for anyone else, whether "what's-his-name" or the other "what's-his-name." Together, those two very nearly tied her.
Issue 3 on Tuesday's ballot, referred to voters by state lawmakers, was put down by a slim margin. But slim is enough. Constitutional amendments don't get runoffs. Any margin, even by one vote, is all that's necessary to trigger rejection or approval.
Arkansas Democrats flipped roughly twice as many state Legislature seats as they expected, and their chair blamed gerrymandering for their failure to win a federal seat. Why it matters: The gains give Democrats more leverage in the state House and renewed hope of winning congressional seats, despite losses at the statewide and federal levels. The blue wave in the 2026 midterms has caused a splash in multiple state-level elections, even in traditionally red states. Election results show Republicans lost their supermajority in state Houses in Arkansas,
Voters in Kansas, Alaska, Arkansas, South Dakota and West Virginia approved noncitizen voting bans by wide margins, but key Supreme Court case looms.
U.S. Rep. French Hill is projected to win his reelection bid in Arkansas’ 2nd Congressional District according to The Associated Press, defeating Democrat Chris Jones in a race that national Democrats considered a “flippable” seat.
Republican Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is set to serve a second four-year term after the AP called the race at 9:40pm yesterday. State of play: Sanders had about 54% of the vote as of early this morning with 99% of votes counted, according to the AP. She defeated Democratic state Sen. Fred Love, who had about 39% of the vote, and Libertarian candidate Colt Shelby, who had about 8%. By the numbers: Benton County voters chose Sanders with about...
Republican U.S. Rep. French Hill held a 4,402-vote lead over Democrat Chris Jones at 2pm Wednesday in an Arkansas congressional race that remained too close to call. The race is for the 2nd District, which covers eight counties in central Arkansas and includes Little Rock. Why it matters: A Jones victory would make him the state's first Black member of Congress and break Republicans' hold on Arkansas' congressional delegation. It would also be...
